Sithumi, a nine-year-old girl with learning difficulties, is a pupil at Wattahena Primary School. And she needs a new home, and fast. She and her parents had been living in a very in a modest dwelling near her grandparents, when a paraffin lamp tipped over while the family was out. The resulting fire burned the house to a cinder. Restoration is sadly out of the question. It so happens that a few years ago the government had given her family a parcel of land on which to build a property, and they scrimped and saved enough to construct the foundations and wall. But now, with the original house a non-starter, they need to complete the build of their “second home”, and quickly.
Extra Cover has already helped toward its construction, but now we have the final elements to provide, namely the windows, doors, a toilet, and connection to the electricity supply. The total cost is estimated at around 400,000 rupees, or around £1000. As ever, we are looking for support.
